What is the reason that the majority of nail salons are owned/operated by asians? What is the connection? What is the connection of asians to nail salons?
In Asian culture, for one to have long nails is a sign of social status/economic level. Nail technicians are regarded very well there henceforth making it most popular in countries like China/Japan. When you couple it with the fact that most Asians place high importance on outward appearance i.e. beauty products and the like, you get a profitable trade.
**It was brought to the U.S. initially as a means of supporting families but has since blossomed into a monopoly on the nail industry/beauty/salon spa as a whole. What is the connection of asians to nail salons?
Yes all nail places are owned by Asians. Particularly Vietnamese. The reason is because Vietnam used to be occupied by France. The French are particularly enamored with nails. You might have heard of the French Cut? That鈥檚 where the tips of the nails are painted white i don't know REALLY but it's a theory that somewhat explains it
I tend to have the same theory as '; Jon N '; above me.
This theory came up to me by the word French Nail. Vietnam, being the colony of France, had adopted many french cultures and french technic from franch people who were living in vietname during the colonial era, and nail beauty should be one of them.
In Asia it is considered to be a sign of affluence to have perfect -long-finger nails.
Poor people work and their nails break. So an Asian woman cares more than European ones. American Asians are worse because they realise they are in a country where beauty is everything.
In Asia it's pretty common to have beauty spa type places tailored to tourists and expats, where the workers can learn English... these same women earn enough to move to America and start their own businesses. All they know is spa/beauty, so that's what they do here, too.
I seem to think it's because they can get through school to do nails in as little as 3 months and they have to speak very VERY little English.
